Further Work on Wood-fired Heating

In trying to imagine using my 55 gallon barrel design to heat water I figured out how to loop copper pipe through where the refractory sand filler would be - inside the cavity between the 55 gallon barrel and the 30 gallon barrel. From there I went on trying to figure where I would put the pump and the collector, if not an actual boiler system, and then kept on going looking into how I could plumb this all into the floors as hydronic heat.

At this point it means a basement or a whole other house where this would not be a hand-dug retrofit.

This shows how one thing leads to another. In this case it shows how I have redone a plan on my southwest steps and porch, along with an east-facing bedroom with his and hers separate doors to the bathroom and walk-in closet.

I am fighting the idea of simplification of the north-facing window light into a gable. I like the wide expanse of a rectangle. I have two shed roofs now draining inward and require a "cricket".

This shows my all-season solar collectors, with the overhang calculated for summer-blocking direct light.
