Window Repair Tool
In dealing with stuck, older double-hung windows I thought of a way to make a spreader out of a low-cost part that can be bought at home improvement stores. The main part is a screw-adjusting deck support that is intended to be imbedded into concrete. I turned it upside down. This makes the whole process of spreading out force on a stile less complicated than putting a 2" X 4" on the sash with two opposed wedges underneath it...which is the emergency method that I employed a little while back this summer high on a rented lift.
A length of steel tubing is enployed over two of these. One side has either a blank rod replacing the threaded one, although I am researching getting a reverse-threaded one made up at a boiler shop local to me.
