In thinking about the design for the exercise wheel for cats I'm decided to try making it both free-standing, something that doesn't get placed against a wall, and something that doesn't have any spokes. I plan on trapping it in with nylon skateboard wheels. The wheel I imagine in some replaceable material, like laminated cardboard that will still be lightweight enough to be very responsive to any weight being placed on it. I have yet to decide whether to have an space between the wheel and the frame, in an attempt to keep a cats paw from ever getting stuck between the two while it's moving.
