The Big Door - Continued
Further measurements drawn into my sketches allow me to arrive at the final door size and design. A new door jamb will have to be put in to accomodate the new door.
The existing jamb is about 5/8" out of plumb. It is not known yet if it merely follows the framing upward to the ceiling of about fourteen feet.
I do have an approximate cross-section as pictured above.
The bottom rail will be three boards jointed together in a stacked tongue and groove 1/2" high and 5/8" wide. At present I plan on making a three-inch deep mortise and pegging them through.
The exterior width the stile and rails will act like a rabbet of a picture frame 13/16" thick, leaving no visual interruptions as the old door does with wood quarter-round for glass stop.
The interior will have square-profiled stop, in a butt-joined pattern 13/16" deep that will be screwed in with counter-sinked screws.
